40th Whitwell Well Dressing – 7th July 2012

This year Whitwell Scout & Guide Group celebrates 40 years of Whitwell Well Dressing Festival, and has produced a book telling the story so far.

The book, launched this month, tells you all you need to know about Whitwell Well Dressings with many photos showing the making of and completed dressings over 40 years. Community members were asked to pick out their favourite well dressing and they are included in the book. The book is the brain child of Guide Leader Hilary Ellis with help from members and friends of Whitwell Scout & Guide Group. Copies of the book are available by contacting Hilary Ellis.

Whitwell Scouts & Guides and East Scarsdale District Explorer Scouts, were with the Red Devils at Hardwick Hall Sunday 13th May.

This is the 5th year that Scouts, Guides & Explorers have provided refreshments for the annual March Past of Parachute Regiment Veterans. This being the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Parachute Regiment, who trained at Hardwick during World War 2, the Red Devils Free Fall Display Team also dropped in.

The young people, aged 11 to 18, also helped the organisers by selling programmes & raffle tickets, escorting VIPs, but also provided large tents to shelter the veterans. Group Scout Leader Craig Edson said "We are very proud of our young people who worked hard over a couple of days to help our heroes, young and old, celebrate the 70th anniversary."
